Give Pets a Chance has a fun-filled summer of fundraisers

It’s not golf. It’s not soccer. It’s footgolf. On Saturday, June 23, Give Pets a Chance invites everyone to come out and play the family sport while helping dogs and other companion animals receive the medical attention they need.

The local nonprofit is all about being able to provide funds so that service and companion animals of those in need are able to receive veterinary services.

GPAC has packed the dog days of summer with everything from lazy evenings on the patio of the Wooster Inn to a great day at the fairgrounds and a fun morning of footgolf.

Footgolf is kind of like golf, only with feet. The sport is played on a golf course, and a soccer ball is kicked into a hole.

“The holes are a little smaller than a hula hoop,” said Rick Storck, president of the GPAC board. “You just bring a soccer ball, or we can supply one.”

The event is run just like a golf scramble with a shotgun start and loads of prizes. “The winning foursome gets Columbus Crew tickets,” Storck said.

There is even a prize for the team that comes in last: soccer lessons with a local pro.

After the game, participants will have a cookout lunch.

No previous experience or skill is needed. It’s not necessary to sign up as part of a team.
“It’s a great, fun day,” Storck said. “Play with friends or with people you meet that morning. We will make foursomes for those who come on their own.”
