Garaway sports roundup: Volleyball picks up win over Central Christian

Lady Pirates notch back-to-back victories on the court; boys golf team advances to districts with strong sectional finish.

The Garaway volleyball team defeated Central Christian 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 in a nonleague clash on Sept. 30.

Audrey Miller (15 kills, 10 digs, four aces, two blocks), Charlee Yoder (31 assists, two aces), Quinn Schwartz (eight kills), Kyleigh LaCroix (seven kills, two blocks), True Tango (six kills, nine digs), Sydney Miller (13 digs) and History Yoder (two blocks) paced the Lady Pirates.

Garaway pulled out a 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-6 win over Claymont in Inter-Valley Conference play on Sept. 25.

Schwartz (15 kills, seven digs, two aces, two blocks), Charlee Yoder (40 assists, 17 digs, two aces), Audrey Miller (13 kills, four aces, 20 digs), Tango (33 digs, eight kills), Kenya Njoroge (17 digs, three aces, two assists), Sydney Miller (17 digs) and LaCroix (seven kills, two blocks) led the Lady Pirates.

Football

Garaway rolled to a 33-6 win over Claymont in IVC action on Sept. 26.

Matthew Frey rushed for three touchdowns and 79 yards on 12 carries to lead the Pirates. Micah Yoder caught five passes for 76 yards and a score, Wyatt Reifenschneider caught two for 58, Trey Miller caught three for 45, Jaxon Garber caught one for 43, and Thomas Grimm rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. Grady Miller completed 13-of-17 passes for 237 yards and a score while rushing for 43 yards on 13 carries.

Grimm led the defense with seven tackles (sack, two for loss). Colson Keller had two sacks, and Yoder intercepted a pass.

Boys golf

Garaway advanced to districts by shooting a 317 to finish second at the Division III Cambridge Sectional on Sept. 24.

Henry Swartzentruber (75), Gavin McRobie (76) and Isaac Bowland (81) led the Pirates.
