Benefiting the Doylestown Community Food Cupboard, the Empty Bowl Project will be held Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Chippewa Junior/Senior High School, 466 S. Portage St., Doylestown.

For a donation of $30, each guest will receive soup, bread, a cookie and water and will be able to choose from a variety of handcrafted bowls to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

New this year, children under 12 will receive a bowl for $10. If one wishes to make a minimum contribution of $10, the meal alone is provided without the gifted bowl. There also will be a silent auction, basket raffles and a 50/50 drawing with all of the money raised going toward support of the Community Food Cupboard. All of the meal’s proceeds are devoted to curtailing hunger in the community.

All tickets are presale only. Complete a form and mail $30 per adult or $10 per child under 12 via check or money order made out to Doylestown Empty Bowl, P.O. Box 111, Doylestown, OH 44230.

Over the last three years from this event, the Doylestown Community Food Cupboard was able extend food distribution.

Due to over $26,000 raised from last year’s Empty Bowl Project, the food cupboard purchased a walk-in freezer and successfully continued to increase the volume of monthly food distribution including fresh fruit and vegetables. The cupboard also increased the number of families that participated in both monthly food distributions and the Weekend Backpack Program and created a new backpack program for all of Doylestown schools.

The food cupboard serves 162 children with weekend food, started an additional program that provides 30 pounds of supplemental food every month to participating senior citizens and started a summer weekend program for children in the community.

The Empty Bowl Project’s goals are to raise as much money as possible to continue to support the Doylestown Community Food Cupboard in 2019-20, maintain the increase in food distribution and support additional outreach, and increase awareness of hunger and related issues.

The Doylestown Empty Bowl committee is looking for local artists and crafters who would be able to donate handcrafted ceramic, wood-turned, glass-blown, fiber or metallic bowls to furnish the needs of the project. Donations of such can be made by calling Marianne Woodside, the project chairperson, at 330-658-7744 or by email at doylestownemptybowl@gmail.com.
