Main Street Wooster, in collaboration with City of Wooster and the Wooster Rotary Club, is launching the Downtown Wooster Veteran Banner Program. This initiative pays tribute to veterans who have honorably served in the United States Armed Forces by displaying personalized banners throughout Historic Downtown Wooster in the weeks leading up to Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Each 30-by-63-inch, full-color, double-sided banner will feature a veteran’s name, branch of service, years served and a photo in uniform, along with the name of the sponsoring family, business or individual.
Thanks to the support of the Wooster Rotary Club, the $200 cost per banner is reduced to $100 for the 2025-26 rotation. Banners will be displayed for two consecutive years between mid-October and mid-November before being returned to the applicant.
“Honoring our veterans is essential to preserving the legacy of those who have sacrificed for our country,” said Shannon Waller, executive director of Main Street Wooster. “These banners serve as a visible reminder of the courage and dedication of our servicemen and women, and we are proud to recognize them in the heart of our community.”
Eligibility requirements
—The veteran must have received an honorable discharge (DD214 or equivalent required).
—The veteran must have been a resident of Wayne County at some point.
—The veteran must not have any felony convictions in a U.S. court.
The application deadline is July 1. The space for the 100 veteran banners is first come, first served.
Each applicant may sponsor up to three veterans, and each veteran may have one banner displayed per rotation, unless additional space is available. A wait list will be maintained as needed.
To apply, submit the following materials at www.MainStreetWooster.org/veteran-banners: a completed application, a high-resolution photo of the veteran in uniform, proof of military service (DD214 or equivalent) and payment of $100 per banner.
“The Downtown Wooster Veteran Banner Program is a heartfelt way to show appreciation for those who have served our country,” said Kerri Manley, project coordinator for Main Street Wooster. “We encourage families, businesses and community members to take part in this meaningful tribute.”
