Church requests handicapped parking space

At the Feb. 18 meeting of Sugarcreek Council, Sugarcreek Mayor Walt Wilson said the Shanesville Lutheran Church has requested a handicapped parking space to be installed. The church is located at the intersection of state Route 39 and state Route 93 in Sugarcreek.

“The space would have to be located south on state Route 93. Police Chief Kevin Kaser will look into the feasibility of the location, and if necessary, the item will be submitted to a committee,” Wilson said.

In another matter the safety committee met prior to the council meeting to discuss a medical director for the village. Dr. Josh Blanton from Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital attended the meeting. Sugarcreek Fire Chief John Meek Jr. and Emergency Medical Services Capt. Cody Shetler also attended to answer questions. Council requested former Fire Chief Dr. Kevin Miller attend the March 3 council meeting.

Council also did the following:

—Heard a streets, water and sewer committee meeting was held prior to council to discuss the possibility of a new schoolhouse tying into a lift station on Ohio 93 just north of the village. Sewer Superintendent Matt Festi answered questions. Festi will contact the village engineers to discuss the issue and report back to council.

—Heard from the ECOBA regarding the proposed renovations of the fire station. There are still questions about the project.

—Held the first reading of an amended ordinance, passed Nov. 4, 2024, adopting the International Property Maintenance Code.

—Held an executive session to discuss appointment of a village employee. No action was taken.
