Always believe big

“For I know the plan I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11.

I didn’t get where I am today by thinking small, not by a long shot. I drive a car in spite of the fact I have cerebral palsy. There would be a lot of people who would count themselves out of even trying to see if they could drive in the first place.

I had people tell me if I even tried to drive I would end up killing someone (real encouraging). There was no you might, maybe or there is a good chance. No, it was you will kill someone. I know they were only looking out for me and other people, but they were small-minded people who in reality didn’t know what they were talking about.

I didn’t know if I could drive or not. I’ve never met another person with cerebral palsy who can drive in my life, and the odd thing was they never had either. So what made them an expert on what I could do?

I knew I wasn’t just going to say, “These people are right, so why even try?” No, I had to know for myself. I started driving in an empty parking lot to see how it would go, and then little by little I started driving on the road. I took driver’s education and passed with flying colors. Now I drive.

There are a lot of people who listen to small-minded people, who would have said, “Boy, you are right. I have cerebral palsy. I guess I will never drive a car.”

They would never know because they let other people tell them what their life is going to be like, instead of letting God tell them what he can do in their life. Someone might say they are older and wiser, but God is older and wiser than they are anyway, so why believe them? Believe God instead.

People say things just to hear themselves talk. They don’t know what God has in store for us. God is so much bigger than all of us down here on earth. Only he knows what he put in our heart. No one else knows. He has big plans for our life, plans that we can’t even comprehend. That is why we shouldn’t lean on our own understanding. We should always trust him to do the impossible in our lives.

God’s plans for our lives will be things we will never be able to accomplish on our own; we need his help and grace to get them done. God doesn’t want us just to do something big; he wants us to be totally dependent on him. He wants us to know we are nothing but a needy child who can’t make it without him.

If you feel God is asking you to do something you can’t do on your own, tell him you can’t do it without him and ask him for help. Don’t just think big but believe big also and watch God work on your behalf.
