The Lake Local School District will resurface its tennis courts.

At its Feb. 23 meeting, the Board of Education voted to enter into a contract with Carpenter Asphalt Sealer Co. at an estimated cost of $69,800. The board also accepted a $35,000 national funding award from the United States Tennis Association to help offset the cost. The remaining balance will be paid from the Permanent Improvement Fund. The project will include grinding, repairing, resurfacing and restriping the courts.

The board accepted a $350 donation from the Uniontown Lions Club for the Lake Elementary Blue Streak Buddies. A ribbon-cutting for the Buddy Bench will take place at 8 a.m. March 23 at Lake Elementary School.

In other business, the board agreed to participate in the Stark County Council of Governments cooperative to advertise and receive bids for integrated school bus units. Superintendent Brett Yeagley said the district does not plan to purchase a bus at this time, but participation could allow for better pricing in the future.

Treasurer Nicole Nichols reviewed the district’s updated financial forecast, which must be adopted and submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Auditor of State by Feb. 28. She discussed recent state legislation, its impact on property taxes and how it affects district income and spending. Board member Deb Cain thanked Nichols for her work, and Yeagley praised her efforts.

The National Honor Society induction ceremony and reception will be held March 11, with the tapping ceremony March 13. The Military Ball is scheduled for March 14 at St. Nicholas Banquet Center.

The next regular meeting of the Lake Local Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. March 16 at Lake Elementary School. Meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment. Audio recordings are available upon request from the Lake Local Administration Office at 330-877-9383.
