Lake school board welcomes new superintendent
The Lake Local Board of Education, at its Aug. 18 meeting, welcomed new Superintendent Brett Yeagley to his first board meeting.
The board accepted a ninth-grade tuition student and approved the school bus routes for 2025-26.
Two policies were approved, one for part-time and substitute certified staff employment and the other for part-time, temporary and substitute classified staff employment, effective immediately.
The superintendent is authorized to secure classified substitute personnel and substitute nurses as necessary. The board also voted to approve the superintendent to maintain lists of persons qualified to serve in various positions as substitutes.
The school district has been allocated the following federal grants for 2025-26: Title I, $251,271.59; Title II-A, $60,357.41 (nonpublic school allocation $13,358.26); Title IV-A, $22,061.87; IDEA-B, $855,305.98 (nonpublic school allocation $103,004.59); IDEA Early Childhood Special Education, $15,330.91; Title III, $6,769.70; and Career and Technical Education, $37,836.60.
Director of Special Services Lisa Shannon is requesting input from individuals who would like to suggest how the special education IDEA-B funds should be expended. Curriculum Director Angel Harbaugh is requesting input on all other federal funds listed. Federal guidelines stipulate how these funds can be spent.
The board also discussed a change of the date of the November meeting because of a meeting in Columbus. They will make that decision at the next meeting in September.
The next regular meeting of the Lake Local Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Lake Elementary School. All meetings are open to the public, and the agenda for every regular meeting includes time for public comment. After adoption of the minutes of each meeting, the audio recording is available upon request from the Lake Local Administration Office at 330-877-9383.
