Harrison County Board of Elections finalizes plans for Nov. 4 vote
Fifteen polling sites to open across county; officials expect low turnout with local races for trustee, council, and school board seats
The Harrison County Board of Elections is finalizing preparations for Tuesday’s election.
“We test our machines and order ballots for Election Day just as we do for every election,” Director Dion Troiano said. “We also have sample ballots available online and are able to answer most questions when a voter calls the office.”
There will be 15 polling locations throughout the county. The board consolidated polling places earlier in the year for the special election, but all locations have returned to normal for this election.
Troiano said voter turnout is expected to be low. “Odd-numbered years tend to have lower turnout because all of the candidates and offices are local,” he said. “Township trustees, school board, and village council members are up for election this year.”
A total of 86 candidates are running for various offices countywide. Of those, 37 are seeking township trustee positions, 27 are vying for council seats, and 14 are running for school boards. In Cadiz, eight candidates are running for four village council seats, while five candidates are competing for three spots on the Harrison Hills Board of Education.
Troiano also noted that the Secretary of State’s office has resolved a lawsuit from the previous presidential administration, granting access to federal databases to help clean up voter registration records statewide. He encouraged residents to verify their registration and be ready to vote Nov. 4.
Residents can view sample ballots and find more information at boe.ohio.gov/harrison/election-info or by calling the board’s office at 740-942-8866.
