The newly renovated auditorium at River View High School will be unveiled during the POPS Concert scheduled Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The concert was postponed by one week to make sure all projects in the auditorium were completed.
"We are really excited for this renovation," said Dawn Anglin, choir director. "It's the first time in many years we will be performing in a state-of-the-art facility."
While the auditorium has been highly maintained over the years, this is its first full renovation since the high school opened in the 1960s.
"We still had the original stage floor and seats," Principal Josh Branch said. "Lights and sound had been updated, but they weren't brand new, just new to us."
When the auditorium opens, it will have a few less seats at 824, but they will be more comfortable and a little bit further apart. There also will be spaces for wheelchairs.
Funding for the project has come from several different resources. The school board and Superintendent Chuck Rinkes were able to set aside $500,000 for the project, Kimble donated $50,000, the Coshocton Foundation gave $20,000, McWane gave $5,000, and seats can be sponsored for $200 each.
"It's not fully funded yet, but we have enough to do what we want and have a wish list of other items," Branch said.
Current donors for the project will be thanked prior to the start of the Nov. 14 concert.
The POPS Concert features about 120 students in seventh grade through 12th grade who will perform different genres of popular music that work together to tell a story.
Tickets for the concert are $7 and available online at www.onthestage.tickets/show/river-view-high-school-dept-of-music/68cc25ea9ceb5e63ef6cd5c7.
"We recommend you get tickets in advance, but there will be some available at the door," Anglin said.
Those who purchased tickets for the original Nov. 7 date will receive an automated email about the date change. If in need of a refund due to the adjusted date of the POPS Concert, send requests to carrie.wymer@rvbears.org. You will be refunded through the OnTheStage ticketing portal using the same payment method in which you purchased tickets. Orders can be either completely or partially refunded. If a partial refund is requested, indicate the specific seats you want refunded. If you do not indicate specific seats, best judgment will be used when issuing the partial refund.
