The Village of West Lafayette is aware of a recent social media exchange involving a village employee and a business owner. Upon becoming aware of the matter, the village took prompt action to address the situation.
The individual involved is no longer employed by the Village of West Lafayette.
The village wishes to make clear it does not endorse or condone the statement made by the former employee. Such statements do not reflect the values, policies or standards of conduct expected of village employees, officials or contractors.
The Village of West Lafayette strongly supports the principles of public discourse, open dialogue and respectful debate. However, certain forms of speech including threats are not protected under the Constitution and are inconsistent with the standards expected of those who serve the public.
