There’s a powerful shift that can happen in a community, and it often starts with something as simple as perspective.

Being in this role with Our Town Coshocton, I have the amazing opportunity to see what’s happening behind the scenes in our downtown and throughout Coshocton County. Every day there are individuals, businesses, volunteers and community leaders working hard — often quietly — to improve the quality of life for all residents.

These efforts don’t always make headlines, but they are happening consistently, thoughtfully and with the best intentions for our community.

It’s easy, especially in today’s world, to focus on what’s not working. Concerns, questions and even frustrations are a natural part of caring about where you live. But I’ve seen firsthand how much more productive and empowering it can be when we approach those same situations with a mindset rooted in curiosity and positivity rather than assumption or negativity.

When we shift our perspective, we open the door to understanding.

In Coshocton County there are people who deeply care about this community and are investing their time, energy and resources into making it better. From downtown revitalization efforts and small business support to community events, beautification projects and long-term planning initiatives, there is meaningful work being done every single day.

And here’s something I want our community to know: If you have a concern or a question, stop in or call them directly and ask it.

There are people who are more than willing to have those conversations, to provide clarity, and to educate others on the “why” behind projects and decisions. Transparency and communication are key to building trust, and those working in service to this community want you to feel informed and included.

When we assume the best in one another, when we choose to engage instead of disengage and when we lead with a positive perspective, the entire tone of our community begins to shift. Conversations become more productive. Collaboration becomes easier. Progress becomes more visible.

A positive perspective doesn’t mean ignoring challenges; it means choosing to approach them in a way that leads to solutions rather than division.

Coshocton is full of people who care, people who show up and people who are working every day to move this community forward. And when we choose to see that, support that and be part of that, the impact is powerful.

So the next time you find yourself questioning something happening in our community, I encourage you to lean in. Ask the question. Start the conversation. You may be surprised at what you learn and how much more connected you feel to the work being done around you.

Because when perspective shifts, everything else has the opportunity to change with it.
