Wooster Music Club highlights local musicians and composers at October gathering
The evening program featured flute duets, original piano compositions, and performances by the Wildwood Winds ensemble, celebrating creativity and community through live music.

The Wooster Music Club met Oct. 7 in the Wooster United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall at 6:30 p.m. Co-president Kathy Helmuth welcomed members and guests.
The program began with Sallie Morton and Margaret Latta playing flute duets, accompanied by Myra Leeper on piano. They performed “Duet Brilliant” by J.E. Skornicka, and a medley (“Londonderry Air,” “Abide With Me” by W.H. Monk, “Whispering Hope” by Alice Hawthorne and “Little Brown Jug” (a traditional tune).
Meg Litteral played three piano tunes written by her young grandchild Josie Rech, whose songs were “Cherokee Smoke Dance,” “King of the Wind Running Against the Sunset” and “Ice Cream Social.”
Litteral also presented the Irish tune “First Light in the Mountains” by Robyn Bullock.
Wildwood Winds performed “Grasswalk” by Laura Shigihara, “Umoja” by Valerie Coleman, “Bethena” by Scott Joplin and “The Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini. The members of the quintet were Ned Brooks (French horn), Annie Gerig (oboe), Jay Klemme (bassoon), Helmuth (flute) and Marty Starkey (clarinet).
For the Composer’s Corner, Leeper celebrated the life and achievements of local musician-composer Mary-Marie Deauclaire, who is a member of the Wooster Music Club.
Litteral closed the program with an original poem titled “Service.”
The Wooster Music Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. from September through May, with the exception of January and February, at Wesley Hall in the Wooster United Methodist Church. Guests are welcome.
