Wayne County Stitchers mark 10 years of Sewing Fest with classes, raffles and community fun

Annual event Oct. 4 at Church of the Cross features sewing workshops, vendor displays, raffles and lunch options for attendees.

The Wayne County Stitchers, a sewing group dedicated to preserving needlework and community service, will host its 10th annual Sewing Fest on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Church of the Cross in Wooster.

The Wayne County Stitchers is a sewing group that meets once a month to discuss sewing projects, plan events, do community service projects or sometimes go on a field trip.

Dues are $15 per year to help defray the costs of community service projects and Sewing Fest expenses.

Some meetings are planned as sew-ins, where members bring their sewing machines and work on their projects, or a member will teach hands-on classes. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Cross, 5100 Cleveland Road, just north of Wooster on state Route 3. After the meeting/program, many members share lunch at a local restaurant.

Ten years ago the group decided to sponsor an event for local people interested in sewing.

Classes were presented on projects of all kinds including how-to classes, sewing machine maintenance and more. Local vendors show their sewing-related wares, scissors are sharpened, and there's a fabric fair, a fat quarter basket, a quilt and sewing machine raffle, and a boutique of the members' sewing projects for sale.

This year the 10th annual Sewing Fest will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Church of the Cross United Methodist Church.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with classes presented from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Door prizes and raffle items will be available at 3 p.m. The ladies at the church prepare food for lunch at a nominal cost, or attendees can bring a sack lunch. Admission is $10.
