Wayne County runners shine at state cross country meet
Smithville’s Kaitlyn Carr captures Division IV girls state title; Orrville’s Owen Lacy, Waynedale boys among top finishers at Fortress Obetz.
Several area athletes and teams competed at the Divisions III and IV state cross country tournaments Nov. 1 at Fortress Obetz.
Division III boys
Waynedale finished 12th in the team standings and was led by Jackson Varner (14th in 15:42.65), Jaydon Varner (56th in 16:34.34) and Lucas Miller (67th in 16:43.15).
Orrville's Owen Lacy finished fifth in 15:30.54.
Triway's Brady Speicher finished 77th in 16:48.12 and Kaden Hilty 82nd in 16:50.15.
Division IV boys
Dalton finished 20th in the team standings and was led by Holden Himes (45th in 16:41.13), Judah Hershberger (65th in 16:54.76) and Cody Hofstetter (82nd in 17:04.93).
Smithville's Nigel Wenger finished 14th in 16:07.01.
Central Christian's Logan Kister finished 115th in 17:30.44.
Division IV girls
Smithville's Kaitlyn Carr finished first in 17:29.19. Her teammate Maryn Erdman placed 70th in 20:19.71.
Waynedale's Piper Polen placed 39th in 19:46.11.
