Wayne County hosts pop-up food pantry
Drive-thru pantry set for Feb. 10 at health department in Wooster.
The Wayne County Health Department, in collaboration with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, will host its next monthly pop-up food pantry Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the WCHD's offices, 244 W. South St., Wooster. This pantry will be drive-thru.
“Our monthly pop-up pantry served over 130 families in January," said Nicholas Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. "We are very appreciative of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and the overwhelming willingness of the community to volunteer to help in this endeavor."
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible.
The health department asks anyone attending the food pantry to receive food enter through the alley off Walnut Street, as it's a one-way alley running east to west. Do not block the United Way or the Wayne Center for the Arts entrances.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the pop-up pantry can call the Wayne County Health Department at 330-264-9590.
