The Wayne County Care Center has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the highest possible designation awarded through the federal government’s nursing home rating system.

The rating is part of the federal Nursing Home Compare program, administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and is available to the public at medicare.gov. The system evaluates nursing homes nationwide using a comprehensive five-star scale designed to help families compare facilities based on quality and performance.

“It’s extremely gratifying to be a part of the Wayne County Care Center and receive a five-star rating,” said Administrator Dave Maletich. “It takes a great team to earn that. But it’s not just me; I have a team of rock stars that work here in every department.”

A five-star designation represents the top tier of performance among care facilities. It reflects strong results across several key categories, including health inspections, staffing levels and other quality measures.

Staffing is another significant component of the rating. Facilities are evaluated based on the number of nursing hours provided to residents, adjusted for the level of care required by those residents. This measurement accounts for resident acuity — the degree of assistance individuals need with medical care and daily activities. Facilities caring for residents with higher needs must maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet those demands.

At the Wayne County Care Center, the five-star rating reflects a comprehensive approach to resident care that extends beyond medical services. The facility offers skilled nursing care and assisted living accommodations, providing support tailored to residents’ individual needs.

A multidisciplinary team works together to support that care, including nursing staff, therapists, dietary professionals, housekeeping and maintenance teams, activity coordinators and medical leadership. Therapy services available to residents include physical, occupational and speech therapy, helping individuals maintain independence and recover from illness or injury.
