May events set at Orrville Public Library
Programs offered for children, teens and adults
The Orrville Public Library is offering a variety of programs and activities for all ages throughout May.
Teens in grades 6-12 can sign up for the Teen Book Box program, which provides a customized selection of books along with treats and trinkets based on individual interests. Registration runs from May 11 through May 23 and can be completed through the library’s website or by contacting the Information Desk. Book boxes will be available for pickup the week of June 1.
Middle school readers are invited to attend the Youth Book Club at 4 p.m. May 21. Participants may choose to read “Dragonborn” by Struan Murray or “Ms. Pennypickle’s Puzzle Quest” by Chris Grabenstein. Books are available in the Children’s Department. Registration begins May 7 through the library’s website or by contacting the Children’s Department.
The Cookbook Club will meet at 6 p.m. May 4, featuring “Betty Crocker Found Recipes: Beloved Vintage Recipes Worth Sharing.” Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share. No registration is required.
The library is also offering free passes to the William McKinley Presidential Library & Museum in Canton for adult CLEVNET cardholders in good standing. Passes provide admission for two adults and all children in the household, plus two additional adults, and are valid for general admission, including museum galleries and planetarium shows. Passes are available for three-day checkout and are not valid for special events.
Preschool Play Lab sessions for children ages 2-5 will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. May 6 and May 20. The program features hands-on activities that support motor skills, early literacy and brain development. No registration is required.
Reading Under the Lights will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. May 14 at Red Rider Stadium. The event is open to families with students in kindergarten through fourth grade and will include activities and stations. Authors Allison and Rafael Rozo will be in attendance. Registered families will receive a free copy of their book, “Diego Fuego the Firefighting Dragon.” Registration closes May 11, though the event remains open to all. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Bob Knight Gym.
Students in grades 5-8 can participate in the Spring Brain Freeze Challenge through May 31 by reading 300 minutes to earn a prize and entry into a grand prize drawing. A summer challenge will begin June 1.
The library will host a plant exchange from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 16. Participants are encouraged to bring labeled plants, bulbs or tubers to share. Master Gardener Ann McPeek will be available to answer questions.
Teens are also invited to attend the Teen Craft Cafe at 4 p.m. May 19 for snacks and creative activities. No registration is required.
