Heartland Trail paving projects underway
Wayne County's trail segments in Orrville and north of Marshallville to finish by August
Rails-to-Trails of Wayne County (RTWC) is awaiting completion of two segments of the Heartland Trail as spring approaches.
The first project is a trail connection in Orrville between Allen Avenue and Forrer Road. The trail base has been installed, and asphalt paving is expected to be completed this spring.
The second project involves paving an additional 1.1 miles of the trail north of Marshallville.
Construction began March 2 and is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 1. During construction, the trail will be closed between the driveway to the Robert Brooker Nature Preserve and Coal Bank Road. A road detour will be posted using Coal Bank Road and Fulton Road.
Questions regarding the project can be directed to Rails-to-Trails of Wayne County at waynerailstotrails@gmail.com.
