The public is invited to join the event at the museums and share the day in tribute to a respected leader.

Don Cooke, a charter member and past president of the Navarre-Bethlehem Township Historical Society, will be remembered at an open house Aug. 24, from 1–4 p.m. The event will take place at the Historical Complex, 123 High St. in Navarre. Cookies and punch will be provided as guests share memories of Cooke.

A walking tour of the Ohio Erie Canal, tracing its route through the village, will begin at 2 p.m., weather permitting. Attendees are encouraged to wear good walking shoes for the one-hour-plus tour.

Cooke was a friend and voice for many in Navarre and beyond. Through his work on towpath committees, the Canal Corridor, his leadership in the Navarre-Bethlehem Township Historical Society and his career as a teacher, Cooke helped preserve local history. He was always ready to share stories that enriched conversations and worked tirelessly to keep history alive and meaningful.
