Moomaw Foundation awards $36K to Tuscarawas nonprofits
Grants boost museums, safety gear, homelessness services, health and education across the county.

The Dewey and Irene Moomaw Foundation awarded nearly $36,200 to Tuscarawas County organizations this year. The charitable foundation, created by lifelong Sugarcreek residents Dewey and Irene Moomaw, provides grants to qualified tax-exempt organizations in the county for charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational purposes.
Recipients include:
Alpine Hills Historical Museum, Sugarcreek — $5,000 for a new elevator to transport visitors and artifacts between four floors of the museum.
Arrowhead Joint Fire District — $2,500 for turnout gear for fighting structural fires.
Camp Tuscazoar — $2,500 for replacement siding on the lodge.
Dress-a-Child for School — $2,500 to provide new school clothing for children in Tuscarawas County.
Friends of the Homeless — $6,000 for a new meeting room at Jack’s House of Hope.
Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation — $2,500 for the Deis Hill Park playground project.
New Philadelphia Band Boosters Association — $2,000 to purchase two new tuba cases.
The Salvation Army — $2,500 for ongoing social services in Tuscarawas County.
Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community — $1,000 for emergency housing and utility vouchers.
Tuscarawas County Health Department — $3,200 for a hemoglobin A1C machine for diabetic testing.
Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition — $1,000 to purchase books for the One Book, One Community program.
Tuscarawas Society for Children and Adults, Rainbow Connection — $1,000 for ongoing social services for disabled and disadvantaged residents in Tuscarawas County.
Tuscora Park Foundation — $2,500 for a fully accessible play area at Tuscora Park.
Project Lead The Way — $250 grants to eight schools for engineering curriculum at Buckeye Career Center, Claymont City, Dover City, Indian Valley, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown Village, Strasburg-Franklin and Tuscarawas Valley schools.
