Marsh Foundation awards $51,000 in grants

The John and Orlena Marsh Foundation awarded more than $51,000 in grants this June to 13 nonprofit organizations throughout Tuscarawas County. The funds will support a wide range of community programs and services.
Beneath the Shade received $2,500 for interior improvements at two recovery homes. Big Brothers Big Sisters was awarded $5,000 to support a summer camp for children in its mentoring program. Blessings in a Backpack received $5,000 to provide weekend food resources for elementary school students. Friends of the Homeless also received $5,000 to maintain essential services in the county.
The Kiwanis Club was granted $2,500 for playground improvements at Deis Hill Park in Dover. Ohio Guidestone received $2,500 to help launch an Expressive Arts Therapy program in the county. Project Lead the Way was awarded $5,000 for STEM programming in Tuscarawas County schools.
The Salvation Army Dover-New Philadelphia received $5,000 for ongoing social services. The Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition was granted $1,000 for its One Book One Community project. Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community received $2,000 to support its school supplies program.
The Tuscarawas County YMCA received $4,273 to purchase a Spin Art Bike and attachments. The Tuscora Park Foundation was granted $4,000 for a fully accessible playground and an additional $5,000 for the baseball turf project. United Way of Tuscarawas County received $2,500 for emergency utility and housing vouchers.
The John and Orlena Marsh Foundation was established in 1989 by the late John J. Marsh Sr., a local businessman involved in the operation of Marsh Lumber Company — now Marsh Industries, which was founded around 1914. The foundation supports qualified charitable organizations located primarily within Tuscarawas County.The next deadline for submitting a grant request is May 31, 2026, for funding to be awarded in June 2026.
