Maddie Larrison, 17, of Kimbolton was named the 2025 Cy Young Days Festival queen during the annual event held in June. She is the daughter of Tim and Shelly Larrison.
“I've been going to the Newcomerstown festival ever since I was a little girl, and I love being able to represent the festival that I've always loved,” Larrison said.
As queen, Larrison is eager to share what makes the festival special.
“The live entertainment, the food and then just all about Cy Young — who he was and what he did,” she said. “Then I will share the fun fact that he had a total of 511 wins in his baseball career, and that was the most ever in Major League Baseball history.”
Embracing the baseball theme, Larrison has worn a blue dress with a baseball print skirt at several appearances. She has already visited the First Town Days Festival in New Philadelphia and the Chautauqua Days Festival in Bethesda. She looks forward to traveling to more events throughout the summer and fall, especially the Woollybear Festival and the Geneva Grape Jamboree in Northern Ohio.
She said she enjoys meeting other festival royalty and serving as a role model for younger girls.
Larrison earned the crown after a private interview with judges and reading an essay she wrote about a quote from Dolly Parton: “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
“I talked about being trustworthy, hardworking and dedicated,” she said.
Larrison is a student at Ridgewood High School and the Coshocton County Career Center. She participates in school activities such as Teen Institute, Drug Free Clubs of America, and the cross country and track teams. Her favorite subject is English.
Outside of school she helps care for the family’s three boxer-mix dogs and enjoys swimming. She also works at a pizza shop in Coshocton, where she washes dishes, operates the cash register and serves customers.
She previously held the titles of 2019 junior queen and 2023 West Lafayette Homecoming queen. She encourages others to participate in festival royalty contests.
“I really recommend for others to try out. It's an awesome opportunity. You get to make tons of friends. You work on your public speaking,” Larrison said. “I'm so glad I've done it all these years.”
She also expressed gratitude to those who make the festival and court program possible.“I would like to thank the Newcomerstown Festival Committee for all the hard work that they put into the festival over the years,” Larrison said. “And I would like to thank the Queen Director Jen Lindig for all her hard work that she puts into the program and the contest.”
Lindig also has helped the court stay engaged in community service projects throughout the year.
