The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation has awarded nearly $1.25 million in grants this year to more than 40 area nonprofit organizations to improve quality of life for local residents.
Eleven grants were made from the foundation's general fund, 13 from the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor Advised Fund, four from the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund, and three from the Dr. Leslie Harrold Community Fund and the Dennison Community Fund.
Foundation grants from the general fund totaled nearly $100,000:
– Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Cancer Center, $33,333.34 (third installment of a three-year grant)
– Habitat for Humanity of East Central Ohio, $7,500 for a new home build in Dennison
– Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club, $5,000 for a playground equipment upgrade at Dover City Park
– Multi-County Advanced Manufacturing Corridor project, $5,000 for a matching grant for equipment
– Tuscora Park Foundation, $5,000 for playground equipment upgrades to improve handicap accessibility
– Newcomerstown NOW, $5,141 for self-watering planters
– Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, $7,125 for an HVAC unit replacement
– Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, $5,000 for dental services
– Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition, $1,000 for the “One Book, One Community” project
– United Way of Tuscarawas County, $15,000 in support of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library reading program
– RTY/New Philadelphia Rotary, $10,000 for the Story Book Lane book project
Grants from the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor Advised Fund totaled $245,000:
– Trumpet in the Land, $25,000
– Rainbow Connection, $10,000
– Dress-A-Child, $25,000
– Community Hospice, $10,000
– New Philadelphia High School Quaker Foundation, $10,000
– RTY Park Place Teen Center, $55,000
– Buckeye Career Center Foundation, $10,000
– Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community, $10,000
– Grace Lutheran Church of Dover, $25,000
– Stark and Muskingum Lakes Chapters of the American Red Cross, $15,000
– United Way of Tuscarawas County, $35,000
– Salvation Army, $5,000
– Tuscarawas County Historical Society, $10,000
Nearly $860,000 was distributed from the Dr. Leslie S. Harrold Community Fund, including:
– $429,500 to Ohio's Hospice
– $214,700 to the Salvation Army
– $214,700 to various area education foundations for student scholarships
Four community grants from the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund included:
– Kent State University Tuscarawas, $10,000 for a Paramedic-to-Associate Degree in Nursing program
– Tuscarawas Philharmonic, $7,500 for organizational support
– Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, $10,000 for program support
– Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue, $2,500 for emergency equipment
The Dennison Community Fund provided three capital improvement grants:
– Twin City Youth Baseball/PHAC Park, $1,350
– Trinity Hospital Twin City Medical Center, $1,350– Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, $2,700
