The Fairless Board of Education recognized several teachers for their service to the district during its Aug. 19 meeting.
Those honored included Alison Kurtz and Kristine Scheetz for 30 years; Angie Andrews, Christine Giauque, Natalie Gilkerson, Betsy Hisrich, Tina Peters, Sarah Peterson, Sharon Ritenour, Lori Neueschwander and Tiffany Schoeppner for 25 years; and Sara Amato, Kelly Hull, Josh Witting and Dan Woods for 20 years.
“We give a longevity bonus for 20 years, a teacher receives $250, 25 years, $350; 30 years, $750 and 35 years $1,000,” Superintendent Mike Hearn said. “When they reach that next step they will get an additional bonus.”
Mike Fuller and Dennis Vargo of the Boy Scouts of America asked to meet with students about joining the scouting program. Hearn said outside organizations are not permitted to meet with students, and the board took no action.
The board also:
— Approved an agreement with the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities for Medicaid School Program services from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.
— Approved Ken Killian as delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association annual business meeting in November.
— Passed a resolution accepting the First Amendment Master Facility Plan under the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission’s Expedited Local Partnership Program. The district was reimbursed $13 million for not installing two storm shelters in the building.
— Entered into an agreement with a cybersecurity firm for the 2025-26 school year.
— Entered into an agreement with Stark County ESC for an assistant county prosecutor to support the district in reducing truancy.
— Approved a combined funding agreement with Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery (Pathway Caring for Children) at a cost of $6,242.
— Entered into an agreement with Pathways for Children to provide behavioral health services.
— Approved an agreement with Megan Russell, certified athletic trainer, on an as-needed basis at $30 per hour.
— Approved seven emergency medical technicians as needed for athletic events at $20 per hour.
— Expanded employment of substitute teachers for 2025-26 and adopted educational requirements for substitutes.
— Issued one-year supplemental contracts to Joshua Witting, head baseball; Benjamin Russell, head track and field; Ashley Schott, assistant softball (7.4%); Haley Hoskins, junior high girls basketball; Theresa Lemus Santos and Kelly Hull, resident education mentors; Danielle Perich, head fall drama; and Trisha Brunckhart, head spring drama.
— Rescinded one-year supplemental contracts for Madison Reese, junior high girls basketball, and Haley Hosking, reserve girls basketball.
— Granted one-year supplemental contracts to non-district personnel, including Madison Reese, reserve girls basketball; Tim Weyandt and Robert Miller, freshman football; Adam Bucher, freshman wrestling; Shelley Frew, assistant girls golf; Julie Tull, head softball; and Daniel Frazee, Kaitlyn Davis and Shelby Prater, assistant softball. Softball coaches will receive a 7.4% stipend.
— Accepted the resignation of Deanna Miller, head cook, effective Aug. 29.
— Increased hours for Gayle Mizer, cook, to 5½ per day, and for Angela Baus, lunch monitor, up to 2½ hours per day.
— Approved Sara Singer as middle school head cook, effective Sept. 1.
— Approved Brianna Studer and Amelia White as permanent certified substitutes at $110 per day.
— Approved a one-year probationary custodian contract for Miah Harris, effective July 15.
The next meeting will be Sept. 16 at 6:15 p.m. at the high school, 800 Seventh St. SE, Brewster.
