Medina Chorus to present ‘A Century of Song’ spring concert
April performances will celebrate 100 years of music and honor local girl with special piece
The Medina Chorus will celebrate a century of music during its upcoming spring concert, “A Century of Song: Music Through the Decades.”
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. April 25 and 3 p.m. April 26 at Medina United Methodist Church, 4747 Foote Road in Medina.
The concert will feature a variety of songs spanning the past 100 years, highlighting the music and stories that have shaped generations. Audiences will travel through the decades as the chorus performs selections reflecting different eras and musical styles.
A special moment in the Sunday performance will include a piece written and commissioned through the Sing Me A Story Foundation in memory of a young Medina girl.
Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at MedinaChorus.com or at the door. Students will be admitted free.
The Medina Chorus has been enriching the community through choral music for more than 90 years. Founded in 1934 as an opportunity for Medina-area high school students and community singers to perform Handel’s Messiah, the organization is one of the longest-standing arts groups in Northeast Ohio.
The chorus continued performing throughout World War II, even when the men’s sections were small, and later expanded to include a spring season focused on lighter works.
Over the years, the ensemble has performed more than 300 choral works. Its repertoire has included major compositions by Handel, Haydn and Britten as well as folk songs, spirituals, madrigals, carols, popular tunes, American musical theater selections and choral music from around the world.
Today the chorus includes more than 75 members of all ages and backgrounds from across Northeast Ohio. The non-auditioned ensemble performs under the musical direction of Mike McClintock.
In addition to its spring and winter concerts, the group performs at community events such as the Medina Candlelight Walk and a summer concert with the Medina Community Band.
Ticket sales and optional donations help support concerts, musical education and outreach efforts that keep choral music thriving in the Medina community.
