Community Alliance Project to host Family Fun Day in Medina Aug. 24
The Community Alliance Project will host its annual West Side Family Fun Day from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Ray Mellert Park in Medina.
The team-oriented event is organized by volunteers from across the community. This year’s planning committee includes the Rev. Michael R. Wilson and Brianna Turner of the Community Alliance Project; Jessie Pritchard of the Claggett Middle School Diversity Initiative; Cindy Maxwell of Cup’s Café; Mia Woods; the Rev. Senesa Peterson of Fellowship Baptist Church; Capt. Tracey Knappins of the Salvation Army; Amy Busby of the Medina School District; Kathy Summers of Medina Community Church; and others who assisted behind the scenes.
Family Fun Day was created to give local children who could not attend the Medina County Fair an opportunity to enjoy summer fun before the school year begins. Although the event now takes place a few days after school starts, its purpose remains the same: to bring families together for games, activities and fellowship.
The afternoon will feature sack races, a basketball skills challenge, kickball, story time and more. Music, food and other activities also will be offered.
Past Family Fun Days have been well-received, with organizers describing the atmosphere as positive and uplifting.
“Previous years’ events were such a success and truly awesome,” organizers said. “The atmosphere was very positive and refreshing, and we are really looking forward to this year’s event being even better. Bring your family and join us as we celebrate our community in a fun and relaxing outdoor setting.”
