The popular Berry School program returns Sept. 25, offering both backyard gardeners and commercial growers a chance to sharpen their skills with guidance from Ohio State University Extension experts.
The half-day event runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Baumhart Berry Farm, 2200 Baumhart Road in Vermilion. OSU Extension specialist Gary Gao will lead the workshop, focusing on producing high-quality berries at home and on the farm.
Attendees will learn about soil preparation, weed and pest management, pruning and other production considerations for brambles and blueberries. The program will also highlight the latest research, with plenty of time for participants to bring their questions about growing small berries in Ohio.
The program is designed for new and experienced growers alike. It is sponsored by OSU Extension in Medina and Lorain counties, along with the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
Registration is free, but space is limited. To RSVP, call 330-725-4911. More information is available at medina.osu.edu or lorain.osu.edu.
