Yellow Jackets edged 1-0 in sectional soccer loss to Westerville South
Mount Vernon closes strong 9-5-3 season; Centerburg volleyball captures third straight KMAC title.

The Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team’s season came to an end
Monday with a 1-0 loss to Westerville South in the Div. II sectional
tournament.
The Yellow Jackets and Wildcats battled to a 0-0 draw in the
first half, but Westerville South, which had dominated play in their end, was
able to sneak one past MV goalie Jackson Hite in the second half and pull off
the victory.
Westerville South led in shots on goal, 16-4, and in corner
kicks, 3-0.
Mount Vernon finished the season with a 9-5-3 record.
The Yellow Jackets headed into tournament play on a high
note, beating Heath, 8-0, on Oct. 8.
The Jackets led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Cody Dapprich
and Xavier Marhefka. They erupted for six in the second half to pull out the
victory.
Noah Maleszewski had two goals in the second half, while
Dapprich, Marhefka, Dallas Krabill and Micah Jones each had one. Jones,
Dapprich, Brayden McCullough, Parker Ward, Cuyler Anderson and Marhefka all had
an assist on the night as the Jackets registered 26 shots on goal.
MV keeper Hite recorded two saves.
Centerburg volleyball
Three times is just as nice for the Centerburg volleyball
team.
The Trojans won their third straight Knox Morrow Athletic
Conference title with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-22 victory over Fredericktown on Oct.

Jazmyn Larimore had 19 kills and 16 digs to lead the
Trojans. Sedona Weisbrod added 12 kills, nine digs and three aces, while Molly
Kain had 17 digs.
Centerburg then sent its seniors off in style with a 25-19,
25-22, 25-13 victory over River Valley on Oct. 9.
Larimore led the Trojans with 18 kills. Liz Likens added 12
kills, while Kain had 20 digs.
