Turnovers doom Danville in loss to Northmor

Three first-half interceptions help Knights roll 37-12; Richards sparks Mount Vernon, Centerburg cruises, East Knox falls late, Freddies stumble vs. Mount Gilead

Danville's Parker Proper (13) gets pushed out of bounds by Northmor's Bryson Baker after picking up some yards during their Knox Morrow Athletic Conference football game Sept. 20 at Danville. The Knights rolled to a 37-12 victory over the Blue Devils.

A turnover can change the tone of a game in a heartbeat.

The Danville football team found that out the hard way Friday night, suffering three interceptions in the first half that turned into Northmor scores. The Knights then rode that early momentum to a 37-12 Knox Morrow Athletic Conference victory at Danville.

The Knights’ first interception came midway through the first quarter when Conner Stockdale picked off Danville quarterback Nolan Ridgway. That set up a 1-yard TD run by Northmor quarterback Tanner Miley.

Northmor (3-2 overall, 1-1 KMAC) turned a second interception of Ridgway into another score, this time a 1-yard run by Garrett Deisch.

The Knights added a field goal to extend the lead, then effectively put the game away with another interception midway through the second quarter. Brad Bowlin stepped in front of a Parker Proper pass and took it 62 yards for the score.

Danville (2-3, 0-2) got things going in the second half, chipping away at the lead. Proper found his brother, Carson Proper, on a 2-yard jump pass for the Blue Devils’ first touchdown.

The defense scored the other one as Wesley Payne returned a Northmor fumble 38 yards for a score.

That was as close as Danville would get, though. Northmor added two more touchdowns – one each from Miley and Deisch – to finish off the victory.

Parker Proper led the Blue Devils with 42 yards rushing and connected on 6 of 10 passes for 25 yards. The Knights held Cyren Wallace to just 11 yards on eight carries. Aidan Mickley caught three passes for 18 yards.

Miley threw for 218 yards on 21 of 26 passing to lead Northmor. Deisch added 102 yards on the ground.

Danville was led defensively by Christopher Mosher and Jacob Byers, who each had eight tackles. Payne, Carson Proper, Wallace, Sylas Mizer and Justice Tharp all added six. Mosher and Tharp each had a sack.

Richards leads Mount Vernon past Heath

Mason Richards accounted for four touchdowns and the Mount Vernon football team knocked off host Heath, 38-22.

Richards rushed for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns, and also threw for 117 yards and two more scores to lead the Yellow Jackets (3-2) to the victory.

The Jacket senior quarterback opened the scoring with an 8-yard TD pass to Greyson Deem in the first quarter. Heath took the lead with a touchdown and two-point conversion, but the Jackets ran off 24 straight points to take control of the game.

Richards scored on a 5-yard rush, then hit Landon Dawson for a 7-yard TD strike to put the Jackets up 24-8 at halftime.

Luke Mullins then ran one in from 1-yard out and Richards added another 1-yard run to finish off the scoring for MV.

Jake Hubbard added 71 yards rushing and Ben Fitzpatrick had 63 as the Jackets racked up 300 yards on the ground. Deem caught three passes for 55 yards, while Dawson (37 yards) and Dammon Wolfe (10 yards) each caught two passes.

Fitzpatrick and Cole Smith each had six tackles to lead the Jackets defensively. Mullins added five and Darrin Monahan had an interception.

Centerburg blanks Loudonville, 41-0

The duo of Miles Marshall and Blane Ball were nearly unstoppable Friday as the Centerburg Trojans cruised to a 41-0 victory over Loudonville (2-3, 0-2).

Marshall rushed for 192 yards on just 16 carries and scored twice to lead the Trojans. One of his runs was a 92-yard TD run. Ball added 183 yards rushing on just 11 carries and scored three times. Ball also connected on 4 of 7 passes for another 50 yards and a TD.

Hayden Love caught two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown for Centerburg (4-1, 2-0).

The Trojan defense allowed Loudonville just 138 yards of offense, 117 of which came on the ground.

East Knox stunned by Pirates

The East Knox and Cardington-Lincoln football teams battled until the end, but it was the Pirates who had the last say, beating the Bulldogs, 36-35.

After tying it up at 28 on a 1-yard run by Jax Lester, East Knox (1-4, 1-1) took the lead on a 60-yard bomb from Lester to Dakota Cooper late in the third quarter.

But, the Pirates (3-2, 1-1) had the final answer when Wyatt Denney scored from 5 yards out midway through the fourth. Denney also ran in the two-point conversion to give the Pirates the lead for good.

Lester finished the night completing 14 of 23 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Rush Beatty caught five of those passes for 138 yards and two scores, while Dakota Cooper had three catches for 80 yareds.

Lester also added 65 yards rushing. Landon Boyd led the ‘Dogs with 73 yards rushing.

Cardington-Lincoln was able to gain 310 yards on the ground, scoring all five of its touchdowns that way.

Indians pull away from Freddies

Leading 7-6 early in the game, things looked good for Fredericktown. But, Mount Gilead scored 35 unanswered points to pick up a 41-7 victory in the matchup of unbeaten teams.

The Freddies (4-1, 1-1) took a 7-6 lead on a pass play from Blake Sipes to Gavin Toombs. But, the Indians (5-0, 2-0) scored twice on runs by Tyler Harr and Jacob Wilt. Then, a fumble return for a touchdown by MG put the Freddies in a dire situation, trailing 28-7.

MG tacked on two more scores in the second half to grab the victory.

Carson Barnum had 164 yards rushing for the Indians, while Wilt had 126.
