Senior wins McGowan Invitational in 18:06.44, breaking 16-year-old Mount Vernon school record

Mount Vernon cross country runner Lucy Rush continued her
outstanding senior season in record-setting fashion on Saturday.
Rush won her first two meets in the Buckeye Valley Baron
Blast and the Highland Flying Scots Invitational. In her third meet, she went
even further — not only winning the McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial,
but also setting a Mount Vernon cross country record.
She finished the course in a time of 18:06.44, breaking
Sarah Baker’s 16-year-old school record of 18:25, set in 2009. Rush’s winning
time helped the Yellow Jackets finish eighth overall in the Division II race at
Watkins.
Nora de la Fuente Morcillo was the next Jacket runner,
finishing 35th in a time of 22:04.34. Amanda Misarti came in 47th
at 22:33.11, followed by Cora Stetler (53rd, 22:57.32), Madison Seng
(98th, 29:15.53) and Anneliese Scott (104th, 32:50.33).
The MV boys’ team finished sixth overall in their race,
scoring 193 points.
Freshman Calvin Heithaus had a strong race, placing sixth in
a time of 16:05.33. Owen Petrie finished 22nd in 17:10.91, followed
by Gavin Andrews (33rd, 17:46.69), Joey Butts (39th,
18:13.61), Nathan Jose (56th, 18:58.94), Anderson Seng (69th,
19:23.03), Zachary Cramer (89th, 20:37.91), Noah Corrigan (94th,
21:20.64), Preston Minton (99th, 21:39.85) and Simon Ruprecht (119th,
23:48.63).
In the Division III-IV race, Centerburg’s girls’ team
finished eighth with a score of 156. Payton Tucker finished fifth overall,
crossing the line in 20:23.20. Brianna Giehl was next at 37th in
23:41.63, followed by Ella Jackson (51st, 24:39.84), Audrey Garner
(54th, 25:27.65), Afton Ellis (59th, 26:21.98) and
Merrideth Nash (75th, 28:48.56).
The Centerburg boys’ team placed seventh overall with 194
points.
Carter Netting was the top Trojan runner, placing 10th
in 17:23.00. Lane Kloss was next in 33rd at 19:14.69, followed by
Samuel Dickhof (52nd, 19:45.93), Noah Matthews (68th,
19:57.34), Corbin Netting (65th, 20:22.94) and Grayson Caudill (66th,
20:27.63).
Freddie girls second, boys third at Wooster
The Fredericktown girls team finished as runner-up to West
Holmes in the Wooster Invitational.
The Freddies scored 130 points, with West Holmes scoring
107.
Peyton Blakesley was the top runner for Fredericktown,
placing 32nd in 21:06.96. Gwen Lavin was close behind at 36th
in 21:22.22, followed by Elizabeth Swartzentruber (45th, 21:47.88),
Sophia Overholt (62nd, 22:23.78), Madi Shade (64th, 22:27.52),
Ella Flynn (76th, 22:58.29) and Micah Phillips (95th,
23:33.62).
The Freddie boys had two runners in the top 30 in finishing
third as a team. Lincoln Snyder came in 21st in 17:05.29 and Anson
Wenger was 28th in 17:24.63. Other Freddie finishers included Darren
Hartley (47th, 17:50.77), Allen Swartzentruber (57th,
18:00.80), Trace Armstrong (82nd, 18:31.60), Nolan Bender (96th,
18:47.47) and Gideon Rashley (103rd, 18:53.62).
