Knox Public Health encourages Knox Countians to celebrate National Public Health Week, April 6-12.

Knox Public Health is proud to join the American Public Health Association and partners across the nation in celebrating National Public Health Week, April 6-12.

This year’s theme, “Ready. Set. Action.”, highlights the importance of emergency preparedness, collaboration, and proactive leadership in building healthier communities.

Let's take a moment to recognize how public health has improved our daily lives, safeguarded our families, expanded our life spans, and strengthened our communities. Public health lives in our environments: it is the air we breathe, the water we drink, the sidewalks we walk, and the parks we enjoy. These are not amenities; they are lifelines. Good health doesn’t just happen, communities set the stage to shape it, and you help to create it.

From the early development of public parks and green spaces to housing and zoning reforms that reduced overcrowding and improved safety, local leadership has long protected health where people live. Today, parks, trails, libraries, and community centers support daily wellbeing and even serve as cooling centers during heat emergencies, while local food access programs and farmers markets help make healthy choices more accessible. You can partner with Knox Public Health during National Public Health Week and take action for a heathier tomorrow by committing to:

  • Take one meaningful action during National Public Health Week.
  • Advocate for health-forward policies at the local, state or national level.
  • Serve as a community health champion in schools, workplaces or neighborhoods.
  • Learn more about emergency preparedness and prevention.
  • Sign up for the Keep it Moving Challenge and commit to staying active.

By working together, we can create safer, stronger, and more connected communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
