For the first time, the city of Mount Vernon is bringing back its annual Spring Clean-Up Day for the second time in the same year. A Fall Clean-Up Day has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, from 8 a.m. to noon.
This month’s event will again take place at Ariel~Foundation Park, in front of the Schnormeier Events Center. And as with the Spring Clean-Up, the Fall Clean-Up will also be open to all Knox County residents (proof of residency may be required), thanks to the city’s partnership with Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention.
“The clean-ups are among the more popular events the city is involved with, and I’m very pleased that as a result of this partnership we’re now able to offer them twice a year,” said Mayor Matthew Starr. “Residents seem to really appreciate the opportunity to clean up their properties, and of course the city benefits as well.”
Anyone living in the county with large, unwanted items, old furniture or just general junk taking up space will be able to dispose of it responsibly on Oct. 18, while keeping our communities clean and clutter-free.
Participants must unload their own materials, but volunteers will be on site to lend a hand. There will be no limit on loads, with a cost of $20 per load. Payment will be accepted in cash, check or credit card. Please make checks payable to “City of Mount Vernon” and note “Fall Clean-Up” in the memo.
No trailer dumping will be permitted, and all materials must be disposed of by hand. Large furniture items like mattresses can be stacked behind dumpsters. Participants must supply their own protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection.
The following materials will not be permitted at the Fall Clean-Up Day – hazardous or toxic wastes, materials containing asbestos, lead acid batteries, oil or auto parts, infectious or bio-hazardous waste, steel drums or steel structures, ashes, dead animals, liquids, tires, yard waste, construction materials, or appliances containing CFC (Freon), such as refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers and humidifiers.
