Mount Vernon dirt bike crash fatality

Dylan Severns, 24, dies after striking utility pole; alcohol suspected.

The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Feb. 14, at approximately 10:53 p.m. on Sunset Street at Walnut Alley in the city of Mount Vernon, Knox County.

Dylan Severns, age 24, of Mount Vernon, was operating a Kawasaki KX100 dirt bike northbound on Walnut Alley where he approached the intersection of Sunset Steet. He traveled off the north side roadway and struck a utility pole guy wire. Severns was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, where he would later succumb to his injuries. Severns was not wearing a helmet and alcohol/drugs are a suspected factor in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon City Fire/EMS, and On the Spot Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
