Mount Vernon boys golf wins first LCL championship in 16 years
Davidson, Beach and Marsell lead Yellow Jackets with top-five scores as team rallies past Granville at Denison Golf Club.
The Mount Vernon boys' golf team captured the Licking County League championship on Tuesday at Denison Golf Club. Team members include Kenton Strouse, Grayson Workman, Tyler Marsell, Griffin Beach, Tyce Davidson, Justus Shaw and coach T.T. Crouch.

The Mount Vernon boys' golf team put it all together when it
needed it most.
The Yellow Jackets entered Tuesday’s final round of the
Licking County League championships trailing Granville. They ended the day with
the school’s first league title in 16 years.
Mount Vernon shot 307 at Denison Golf Club to win the fourth
leg of the LCL tournaments and the overall championship after Granville
finished third on its home track. Watkins Memorial finished second at 317,
edging Granville and Newark Catholic, which each shot 318.
Senior Tyce Davidson had one of his stronger outings of the fall,
firing a 75 to finish third on the day and earn first-team All-LCL honors.
Seniors Griffin Beach and Tyler Marsell were each a stroke back at 76. Beach
also earned first-team honors, while Marsell earned a spot on the second team.
Grayson Workman shot an 80, followed by Justus Shaw at 83
and Kenton Strouse at 84. Strouse earned second-team All-LCL honors.
Mount Vernon girls’ golf
The Mount Vernon girls’ golf team also participated in the
final Licking County League tournament, finishing eighth.
The Yellow Jackets shot 451 as a team at The Links at Echo
Springs.
Jadyn Row and Lillian Buckwalter led the way for MV, each
shooting a 110. Reese Hubbard was next at 113, followed by Molly Emig at 118
and Bailey Vanderpool at 126.
Mount Vernon boys’ soccer
The Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team jumped on Northridge
early and often, cruising to a 5-1 Licking County League victory on Sept. 10 at
Mount Vernon.
The Yellow Jackets (5-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 LCL) scored three
times in the first half, on goals from Micah Jones, Noah Maleszewski and Dallas
Krabill. Xavier Marhefka and Jones both added goals in the second half.
Marhefka and Maleszewski were credited with assists.
The Jackets outshot the Vikings, 28-4, and had a 7-4
advantage in corner kicks. MV goalkeeper Jackson Hite recorded three saves.
