Fredericktown FFA excels at Ag Power event

On Feb. 9, the Fredericktown FFA Chapter sent two members to the John Deere Training Center in Plain City to compete in the Agricultural Power Diagnostics Career Development Event. To qualify for this hands-on portion of the contest, members must first take a rigorous online exam, with only the top two scorers moving on to represent the chapter. This year, eight Fredericktown FFA members took the initial test, and the top two qualifying members were Keith Rogers and Austin Robinson.

During the Ag Power Diagnostics CDE, members are tested on their ability to troubleshoot and repair real-world mechanical issues. The contest consists of multiple stations, each featuring a piece of agricultural machinery. Using only the tools they brought with them, members must diagnose and fix problems on machinery with horsepower ratings greater than 30.

The Fredericktown team saw great success at the event, placing fourth overall in the district contest. Notably, they were the highest-placing team among all Knox County schools in attendance.

Rogers noted that he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and liked the variety of problems he encountered on the machinery, which challenged him to think critically to solve real-world issues. When asked if he would recommend the CDE to other members, Rogers said he would, as it teaches valuable, real-world mechanical skills.
