Freddies fall to Centerburg, bounce back with three boys basketball wins
Fredericktown girls drop Jan. 2 contest to Trojans, while Freddie boys stay unbeaten with victories over Clear Fork, Mount Gilead and Northmor.

The Fredericktown girls' basketball team watched as Centerburg took over with a strong
second quarter and went on to the 53-36 upset of the Freddies on Jan. 2.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, as
Centerburg led 6-4. The Trojans then outscored Fredericktown 18-7 in the second
quarter and went on to the victory.
Ella Bouton led the Freddies with 17 points, including 12 in
the fourth quarter. She also had six rebounds and three steals. Mya Bryant
added nine points and 12 rebounds, and Nula Hansen had five points.
Boys’ basketball
The Fredericktown boys’ basketball team faced a trio of
tough tests this week and passed each one with flying colors.
Fredericktown was strong in the middle two quarters, pulling
away from host Clear Fork for an 81-69 victory on Dec. 29.

The Freddies led 16-15 after one quarter, but outscored the
Colts 23-12 in the second and 21-14 in the third, to blow the game wide open.
The team made a blistering 71% of its two-point shots on the night (30 of 42).
Gavin Toombs led the Freddies with 22 points and 10
rebounds. Zane Luckmeier added 21 points and nine rebounds, while Blake Sipes
had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Carson Rinehart
checked with 17 points.
Then, on Jan. 3, the Freddies squared off with Knox Morrow
Athletic Conference rival Mount Gilead, pulling away late for a 70-56 victory.
FHS led just 49-44 after three quarters, but outscored the
Indians 21-12 in the final frame to grab the victory and remain unbeaten on the
year.
Toombs and Rinehart each scored 22 points to lead the
Freddies. Rinehart also had eight rebounds and three steals. Sipes added 15
points and 10 rebounds, while Luckmeier had seven points.
The Freddies used a methodical approach to beat Northmor, 59-41, on Jan. 6. FHS led 16-10 after one period and kept adding to it each quarter afterward to beat the second-place team in the league.
Luckmeier led the Freddies with 18 points and five rebounds. Sipes added 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals, while Rinehart had 10 points and Toombs had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Bowling
The Fredericktown bowling teams were swept by visiting East
Knox on Jan. 5.
The girls dropped a close match, falling 1,592-1,574.
Maddie Bartlett led the Freddies with a 298 series
(134-164). Pilar Payne shot 289 (136-153) and Kota Curtis had 270 (134-136).
The Freddie boys fell to EK, 1,912-1,628.
Jordan Moore had a high game of 194, while Mason Gearhart
had a 179 for the Freddies.
