Freddies capture Newark Invitational; Centerburg teams compete at Tiger Invite

Fredericktown boys cruise to victory behind Lincoln Snyder, while area runners and Centerburg volleyball notch strong performances

The Fredericktown boys’ cross-country team placed five guys in the top 20 and cruised to a victory in the Don Hardin Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 20 at Heath.

The Freddies scored 58 points to edge out Mount Vernon, which placed second at 70. East Knox was fifth at 135.

Lincoln Snyder was the top Freddie runner, placing fifth in 17:51.98. Anson Wenger (11th, 18:15.67) and Darren Hartley (12th, 18:23.06) were next, followed by Gideon Rashley (18th, 18:59.15) and Nolan Bender (20th, 19:01.84).

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Calvin Heithaus, who finished third overall in 17:23.97. Owen Petrie was next in seventh at 18:00.07, followed by Gavin Andrews (16th, 18:51.80), Nathan Jose (25th, 19:25.75) and Anderson Sweng (26th, 19:27.10).

East Knox got a top 10 finish from Kaiden Clutter, as he finished ninth in 18:06.19. Lucas Holland (22nd, 19:17.30) was next, followed by Zeke Proudfoot (27th, 19:27.75), Curtis Divan (48th, 21:33.02) and Cale Brewer (50th, 21:34.85).

Danville also participated in the race. Johnny Stephens was the top Blue Devil runner, placing 33rd in 20:11.04. Ethan Swendal (38th, 20:34.92) was next, followed by Nick Mosher (53rd, 21:45.10) and Evan Crider (54th, 21:47.38).

On the girls’ side, Mount Vernon’s Lucy Rush continued her dominance, winning the event by more than a minute in 18:37.71.

Mount Vernon finished third as a team with 83 points. Licking Heights was first with 29, followed by Fredericktown at 76.

Nora de la Fuente Morcillo was the next MV runner, placing 10th in 23:11.81. Amanda Misarti was 23rd in 24:14.65, followed by Callie Peugh (24th, 24:19.12) and Madison Seng (57th, 30:20.99).

Fredericktown was led by Peyton Blakesley, who finished fifth in 21:52.50. Micah Phillips was next in 13th at 23:16.52, followed by Nula Hanson (20th, 24:05.97), Elli Rashley (27th, 24:36.69) and Kit Bellman (32nd, 25:05.18).

East Knox had three runners participate, led by Macie Fawcett’s 16th place finish in 23:23.65. Cloe Tucker was 22nd in 24:07.80 and Kaylie Barlock 45th in 26:49.37.

Brooklyn Ashman led the way for Danville, placing 21st in 24:07.10. Raegan Malone (34th, 25:17.93) was next, followed by Gracie Lucas (42nd, 26:36.45) and Hailey Colopy (56th, 29:23.25).

Centerburg competes in Tiger Invite

The Centerburg cross country teams traveled to Pickerington Central on Sept. 20, participating in the Tiger Invitational.

The boys’ team finished 11th with 360 points. Delaware Hayes won with 56.

Carter Netting was the first Centerburg to cross the finish line, doing so in 20:04.06. Andrew Dickhof finished in 20:04.31, followed by Lane Kloss (20:07.40), Corbin Netting (20:20.40) and Samuel Dickhof (20:43.81).

The girls’ team finished 13th with 429 points. Canal Winchester won with 61.

Payton Tucker led the Trojans, finishing the race in 25:46.59. Brianna Giehl was next at 25:46.59, followed by Afton Ellis (28:55.32), Merrideth Nash (29:06.07) and Claire Hill (29:16.82).

Centerburg volleyball

The Centerburg volleyball team battled Heath for four sets before finally pulling away for a 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-12 victory on Sept. 20.

Sedona Weisbrod led the Trojans with 25 kills and 14 digs. Jazmyn Larimore added 18 kills and 17 digs while Molly Kain had 21 digs.
