On Monday, Aug. 25, the Knox County Regional Airport hosted the first official meeting of its newly established Civil Air Patrol unit.
The event marks a milestone for both the community and the airport, as Unit Commander Colonel Dlugiewcz formally presented the unit charter. The formation of the new CAP unit at Knox County Regional Airport strengthens opportunities for local residents to participate in aviation education, emergency services training, and community service initiatives.
CAP, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, plays a vital role nationwide in promoting aerospace education, supporting search and rescue operations, and mentoring youth through its cadet program.
“Having a Civil Air Patrol presence here at Knox County Regional Airport is a tremendous step forward for our community and airport,” said Airport General Manager Josh Wynn. “It provides young people and adults alike with unique opportunities for service, leadership, and aviation experience right here in Knox County.”
Knox County Regional Airport, located at 6481 Kenny Road, Mount Vernon, serves as a hub for general aviation in the region. The airport board and Knox County Commissioners are committed to advancing education and training opportunities for the entire community.
