City's leaf collection slowing down as winter approaches
Mount Vernon crews finish four passes and shift equipment to winter operations as residents are urged to place remaining leaves at the curb
The city of Mount Vernon is beginning to wrap up the 2025 leaf collection season. So far this year, crews have completed four passes throughout the city, resulting in over 100 loads of leaves collected.
Starting Monday, Dec. 1,, the city will be operating with one truck/machine to collect the remaining leaves. All other equipment is being converted for winter operations in anticipation of the winter weather event expected this weekend.
We ask that all residents place their leaves at the curb as soon as possible so crews can collect them efficiently with limited equipment.
Residents who still require leaf pick-up should call the Street Department at (740) 393-9501 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., beginning Monday, Dec. 1.
The leaf drop-off area at the Thayer Road Compost Facility remains open daily from dawn until dusk for loose leaves only. All bags or containers must be removed after emptying.
