Centerburg explodes in second quarter to upset Freddies
Trojans’ second-quarter explosion fuels girls’ upset of Freddies, while boys pull away from Loudonville and edge Cardington-Lincoln; bowling teams split at Cardington.

After a sluggish first quarter, Centerburg exploded with a
strong second quarter and went on to the 53-36 upset of Fredericktown on Jan.
2.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, as
Centerburg led 6-4. The Trojans then outscored Fredericktown 18-7 in the second
quarter and a 19-8 advantage in the third quarter all but sealed it.
Kenlee Fairall and Tiara Sheppard each scored 22 points to
lead the Trojans. Lauren Ellis added five points.
Boys’ basketball
Centerburg jumped on Loudonville early and often, cruising
to a 55-32 victory in a Knox Morrow Athletic Conference boys’ basketball
contest on Jan. 3.
The Trojans exploded to a 15-2 lead after one quarter, then
used an 18-5 advantage in the third quarter to put the game on ice.

Steffan Sands and Brady Cole each scored 12 points to lead
the Trojans. Hayden Love added nine points, while Caleb Rhodebeck had seven and
Blane Ball six.
The Trojans followed that up with an exciting,
come-from-behind, 46-44 victory over host Cardington-Lincoln.
The Trojans trailed 38-36 after three quarters but held the
Pirates to just six points in the final eight minutes to capture the victory.
Drew Trout led the Trojans with 14 points, including a
6-of-7 night from the free-throw line. Steffan Sands added 10 points, while
Hayden Love and Brody Cole each had eight.
Bowling
The Centerburg bowling teams split their matches with host
Cardington on Jan. 5.
The Trojan boys’ team beat Cardington 1,774-1,677.
Michael Wallace led the Trojans with a 389 series (229-160).
Shawn Carter fired a 350 series (189-161), while Luke Pack shot 264.
The girls dropped a 1,790-902 decision to the Pirates.
Azala Compton led the Trojans with a 220 series, while
Ryleigh Stephens shot 203.
