Centerburg excels at KMAC wrestling championships

Centerburg's Cory Climer wins individual title; team finishes fourth in Knox County event

Knox County wrestlers took their shot at a conference title on Saturday when they competed in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference wrestling championships at Northmor.

Centerburg was the highest team finisher from Knox County, placing fourth with 90.5 points. Northmor won the event with 270 points. Fredericktown finished seventh at 76, Danville was eighth and East Knox ninth.

Centerburg’s Cory Climer won an individual title in his 126-pound weight class. The Trojan junior won all four of his matches on the day, including one pin and one technical fall.

Noah Matthews (132 pounds) had a runner-up finish for Centerburg, while Braxton Vernon (138) and Cole Evans (215) both came in third. Matthews had three pins in pool play before losing to Northmor’s Brady Carr in the championship match.

Vernon had two pins and a 13-2 decision in the third-place match, while Evans had one pin on the day.

Fredericktown had two wrestlers finish in third, with another two picking up fourth-place showings. Aidan Ebersole (157) won four matches to finish with the bronze, while Domenic Wolpe (285) had two pins to also place third.

John Wood (132) and Owen Garver (138) both finished fourth for the Freddies.

Carter Wittel (285) was the high finisher for Danville, gaining runner-up honors. He had two pins and a decision before falling in his final match. Kyle Hackman (113) finished fourth with one decision.

East Knox’s lone wrestler – Brent Link – finished with one pin in the 138-pound class.
