Bulldogs' rallies fall short in pair of losses
Bulldogs' late rallies fall short against Mount Gilead and Cardington in boys' games; girls' team splits results.
Second-half comebacks weren’t quite enough for the East Knox boys’ basketball team. The Bulldogs rallied late in two games this week, but still dropped the decision in both.
East Knox dropped a tough 48-40 decision to Mount Gilead in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference action on Jan. 30.
The Bulldogs trailed just 22-20 at halftime, but the Indians were able to hang on for the victory.
Jaxon Crawford led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Peyton Hull added nine, while Mason Payne had seven, Rush Beatty six and Kyson Miller five.
On Feb. 3, the Bulldogs scored 31 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Cardington came away with the 46-44 victory.
The Pirates led 27-13 at halftime before EK mounted its comeback.
Payne led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Crawford and Hull each had nine, while Beatty had five.
Girls’ basketball
East Knox cruised to a 35-14 victory over Mount Gilead on Jan. 29.
Jasmine Smith scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs. Melena Streby added eight, while Izzy Bostic had six and Cloe Tucker four.
The Bulldogs followed that up with a 43-24 loss to Utica on Feb. 2.
The Bulldogs scored just eight points in the first half as the Redskins took command.
Streby led the Bulldogs with seven points. Tucker added six, while Bostic and Ava Faucett had five each.
