Blue Devils crush Fisher Catholic 59–8 to advance in playoffs

Freshman duo Parker Proper and Brigs Wallace shine through the air as Danville dominates both sides of the ball in its second straight postseason win.

Danville quarterback Parker Proper (13) avoids a tackle during a game with Fredericktown earlier this season. Proper threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns as the Blue Devils beat Fisher Catholic, 59-8, in a Div. VII playoff football game Friday at Lancaster.

The Danville playoff train keeps rolling along.

The Blue Devils picked up their second straight Div. VII, Region 27 playoff victory by steamrolling Fisher Catholic, 59-8, on Friday night at Lancaster.

Danville (7-5) added a new wrinkle to the game plan Friday, throwing for 218 yards and two touchdowns. It was a pair of freshmen — quarterback Parker Proper and receiver Brigs Wallace — that showed off the new look for the Devils.

Proper completed 10 of 12 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns, with Wallace catching five of those passes for 155 yards and one score (a 61-yarder).

While the freshmen tried to steal the show, it was the tried-and-true Blue Devils that got the game going. Running back Cyren Wallace scored the first two TDs — on runs of 16 and 53 yards. He added a 2-yard run in the second quarter as the Devils took control, leading 42-0 at half.

Danville’s main calling card — defense — made sure Fisher Catholic (8-3) wasn’t able to muster any kind of comeback, holding the Irish to just 101 yards of offense, including just 21 yards rushing.

Fisher quarterback James Wilkinson attempted 23 passes on the night, but completed just five of them. Wilkinson was also sacked twice (Jacob Byers and Justice Tharp) and intercepted three times (Wesley Payne, Carson Proper and Cyren Wallace). Wallace’s pick also resulted in points for Danville, as he returned his 40 yards for a TD.

The Devils’ defense also scored a touchdown when Owen Gronberg fell on the ball in the end zone after a bad snap over the head of Wilkinson.

Cyren Wallace led the Danville ground game with 115 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Camden Horn and Payne each had two receptions for 23 and 22 yards, respectively.

The Blue Devils will now travel to Waterford to take on the 9-2 Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the regional finals against the winner of Hillsdale and Symmes Valley.
