A grant application has been submitted for the demolition of property at 227 N. Broadway St. at a cost of $53,966, Sugarcreek Mayor Walt Wilson said during the Monday, Feb. 2 village council meeting.
At 7:10 p.m. council moved to an executive session to discuss IT security for the village and the discipline of a public employee. Council reconvened at 9:10 p.m. Council voted to change its IT security to Pioneer 360.
In another matter Village Administrator Kevin Kaser said as part of the repairs to the water tower, the exterior must be painted. Council approved quotes of $53,250 for the tower at the football field and $57,000 for the tower by McDonald's.
Council also did the following:
—Accepted the resignation of Justin Thomas from the street department, effective Jan. 23, after 10 years of service. Rick Troyer, street employee, resigned effective Feb. 2.
—Employed Sharolyn Schlabach for the fire department. Council agreed to pay for her emergency medical technician training.

—Agreed to a $1-per-hour pay increase for the Alpine Museum curator. The salary is split four ways, with the village contributing 25%. Council member Sam Beachy abstained from the motion.
—Learned the village will do ditch cleaning on state Route 39 near Ragersville Road.
—Heard the basement of the police department flooded due to a failure of the sump pump. HNR solved the problem.
—Learned Zachary Haynes has passed the testing and will enter the police academy classes Feb. 3.
—Heard a request from Skyline Meadows School about installing a septic tank. Kaser said nothing has changed regarding the right-of-way, so school officials will need to wait for approval.
—Heard no one attended the public hearing regarding the short-term rentals for Airbnbs. Council later passed an ordinance adopting amendments to the zoning code of the village to address short-term rentals.
—Passed an ordinance providing for the zoning of unzoned parcels of land annexed to the village.
—Heard council members request that when the employees are plowing snow, not to cover the fire hydrants or the downspouts at the curbs.
—Heard a new mower from Schlabach Engine Repair will be purchased for $15,665. A trade-in allowance will be given for $7,350. The final cost of the mower will be $8,365.
—Approved an upgrade to the traffic signal at Shanesville Square. It will be repaired by Signal Service at a cost of $8,060.
—Reminded residents, according to a village ordinance, they are responsible for clearing sidewalks of ice and snow.
Other items
A decision for 2026 street paving will be made at the Feb. 17 meeting.
Sugarcreek Fire and Rescue will hold a spaghetti supper Saturday, Feb. 28 from 4-7 p.m. at the fire station, 152 N. Broadway St. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, a salad bar, a sundae bar, and beverages. The cost is by donation. Carryout will be available.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at 410 S. Broadway St., Sugarcreek. The meeting was changed from Feb. 16 due to Presidents Day.
