With the Lord I'm safely kept
Local writer Angela Chapman reflects on overcoming life's worries with spiritual guidance.
I tossed and toiled, and it got me nowhere,
Only waking the next morning feeling groggy as a bear.
The worries of this world don't care if you lose sleep.
Worries give your eyes a continued weep.
Jesus said to take no thought of tomorrow.
It will worry about itself; don't sorrow.
Our heavenly Father sees even the sparrow when it falls.
"We are worth more," Jesus said. He hears our beckoning calls,
Even the prayers we've prayed all these years,
Along with the restless nights with many tears.
God hasn't forgotten; he knows each heartache.
He holds us up and knows how much we can take.
There is no burden that is too heavy for the Lord.
As we cast our cares upon him, his peace over us is poured.
Some nights may seem long without an end,
But to our souls the Lord will always tend.
Weeping may endure for a night.
Joy comes in the morning with God's light.
Prayers are being answered from the Lord's horizon and timing.
The Lord has a mighty army with many saints arising.
The toiled nights with prayers on knees
Are not forgotten by the Prince of Peace.
The Lord has his perfect way, even in the whirlwind.
Nothing is stronger than our God, who still loved us while we sinned.
How much more care and love our heavenly Father bestows
Upon his children who are trusting in him, God knows.
Jesus restores and gives back all that the locust has stolen.
That is God's word for his children — God's chosen.
Now I will both lay me down and sleep in peace.
All frights and fears will now cease.
The Lord is my keeper and watches all night.
When my eyes close, the Lord remains in sight.
God's promises remain when I awake,
To God's morning — his amazing daybreak.
And when the sun rises until it will set,
I'm believing each day with the Lord I'm safely kept.
