Auditions set for new spring comedy
The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County will hold auditions for its spring comedy, “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club,” Sunday and Monday, Feb. 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. in the theater. Registration will be at 6:30 p.m. Performance dates will be April 25 through May 11.
Written by Jesse Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, the comedy is about five women whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage, the Sweet Delilah, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh, take a dip in the ocean and meddle in each other’s lives. The play focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years as they work through the challenges of men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce and aging.
Artistic Director Don Irven said, “This delightful script is part ‘Steel Magnolias,’ part ‘Designing Women’ and a touch of ‘The Golden Girls.’”
Wooten, a writer/producer of the “Golden Girls” series, won the Writers Guild of America Award.
Irven is seeking five female actors in their 30s to 60s who can play characters from their mid-40s to 70s. The characters will progressively age throughout the play.
All actors will be asked to read from the script and to present a monologue, available online at www.thelittletheatreonline.org.
