River View’s Carter Hammersley signs with Mount Union
The senior hurdler plans to join the University of Mount Union track team and study accounting after graduating from River View High School
Carter Hammersley wasn’t sure about hurdles when he first tried them, but now that event is helping take him to college.
The River View High School senior recently signed his letter of intent to join the track team at the University of Mount Union.
“I hated hurdles in eighth grade, but there was no one else to do them,” Hammersley said, “I got better though with time and training.”
River View’s track coach Vince Andrews said Mount Union is getting a quality kid who has the potential to be even better than he is now.
“He cares about people and will help anyone,” Andrews said. “He’s quiet, but when you get to know him, you see the joy he brings to the group.”
Hammersley is the son of Melissa and Nick Hammersley, who are both very proud of him.
“We loved Mount Union when we toured it,” Melissa Hammersley said. “It felt like home, and there were lots of coaches to help out.”
Nick Hammersley said, “I’ve liked watching him grow and get better.”
Carter Hammersley plans to major in accounting at Mount Union.
“Don’t stress out about where you want to go to school,” he said. “Last year I had no major and no school. You will have time to figure it out.”
