For almost 60 years, the Coshocton Community Band has been entertaining the area with summer concerts on Court Square. The band held its first concert in July 1966.

Christie Cochran is the sixth director of the band, and this summer will be her 17th year.

“We currently have 43 musicians from six different counties. We have ages ranging from high school age up to members in their 80s,” Cochran said.

Cochran said the band is always looking for new members at any skill level. “We especially need woodwind players this year.”

The Coshocton Community Band performs every other Friday starting June 6 and finishing Aug. 15 from 7-8 p.m. on Court Square. Bring your own chairs. This year the themes for each week are “Colors,” “Marches from the Gazebo,” “Patriotic Salute,” “Transportation,” “Classics of the Stage” and “Band Favorites.”

“Community bands have been in existence for 200 years and are an important part of Americana tradition. Music can be a lifelong activity, and we enjoy getting together with like-minded people who have a passion for creating a musical experience for ourselves and our audience,” Cochran said.

To join the band, talk to Cochran or any band member or just come to a rehearsal. The band practices every Tuesday from 6:15-7:45 p.m. at Kids America. Follow their Facebook page for more details.
