Five candidates are seeking four open seats on Malvern Village Council in the Nov. 4 general election.

The Free Press Standard invited each candidate to answer questions about their background, qualifications and goals for the village. Those running include Barbara Burgess, Craig DeLong, Tom Holmes, Marci Hubbard and Michael McCort. Following are answers from those who responded.

Barbara Burgess

Barbara Burgess

Age 62, 404 Avondale, Malvern

"I am an incumbent on Malvern Village Council seeking reelection. I have worked very hard for council and the village trying to get the water project done and also getting some roads paved, which will be happening before winter. I have worked closely with the current village council to try to keep things moving in a positive direction so that Malvern village will keep expanding and growing. I love being on council and feel that it is fulfilling to be able to give back as much as I can to the community."

Tom Holmes

Tom Holmes

Age 50, 303 N. Canton St., Malvern

"I am an incumbent looking to retain my seat on council. I have had my own construction business for 25 years and have served on council for a total of nine years.

"My goal is to keep the village of Malvern a beautiful and welcoming place. I intend to further progress the waterline project, ensuring that all residents have continued access to safe, clean drinking water."

Marci Hubbard

Age 60, 851 Avalon Rd., Malvern

Marci Hubbard

"I am a lifelong resident of the village of Malvern. I am seeking to retain my seat on the village council to continue advocating for the residents and addressing the concerns that matter most to our community. "

"I am an incumbent. I bring seven years of valuable experience on the Village Council.

"During this time, I have served on the Fire Board and village Finance Committee, and I currently serve as the chair of the Park Committee. These roles have given me a well-rounded understanding of the many aspects of our village government."

"My focus will remain on being a strong voice for the concerns of our village residents. I am committed to protecting and enhancing our village park. I will continue to advocate that we move forward with the plan to install fencing, starting with the playground and pavilion area. This improvement will increase the safety for children and prevent vehicles from driving onto the walking track which should help to extend its life."

Michael McCort

Age 56, lifelong resident of Malvern

"I have over 15 years of political experience. My recommendations and proposals are very simple. Stop increasing councils’ salary when there are public improvements needed done in the village of Malvern. For example, roads, alleys, and lamp poles. These are just a few of the things that need addressed immediately."

Craig DeLong did not reply.
